On Your Marks, Get Set… BAKE! Christchurch Care Home Holds Its Annual Bake Off
Inspired by the return of the Great British Bake Off to UK television screens, staff and residents at Care South’s Queensmead care home in Christchurch recently held a bake off competition of their very own.
Queensmead staff and residents, along with residents’ friends and families were invited to enter their signature bakes into the annual competition and pulled out all the stops to impress the judges. Entries included fruit, coconut and classic sponge sandwich cakes and the home’s dining room looked and smelled delicious.
The judging panel, made up of Queensmead residents, set to work tasting each entry and assessing the appearance, taste and moistness of each bake. Having compared notes, the panel announced Care Assistant, Elizabeth Night, as the winner for her outstanding raspberry custard cake – with Emma Cotton, Acting Home Manager, in second place and Administrator, Rebecca Arnell, in third place.
Emma Cotton said: “What a brilliant day! Our annual bake off competition is always really popular with residents and their families – and with Care South staff too. The competition gives residents the perfect opportunity to refresh their baking skills, as well as enjoying tea and cake together with their families after the winners have been announced. I was delighted to come second with my attempt and would like to thank everyone who got involved.”
