Newham Councillor Cuts The Ribbon On New Autism Community Service

newhamOn the 23rd September 2016 local Councillor Aleen Alarice officially opened a new community residential service for young people and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex needs in Newham. The service, Phoenix House, is managed by Independent Care Provider Precious Homes and has been designed to support individuals with ASD and complex needs and/or who are stepping down from secure settings; providing innovative and high quality support shaped around individual needs.

In her opening speech, Councillor Aleen Alarice praised Precious Homes’ innovative approaches to care and the development of a housing model that she hopes will pave the way for future services not just in the Borough, but also on a national scale. Councillor Alarice cut the ribbon and joined in on celebrations alongside individuals who are supported by Precious Homes, their families and support teams as well as health and social care professionals from across London and surrounding counties.

Phoenix House has been designed to support people with ASD and/or who are moving out of secure settings to live in the community. Like all of Precious Homes’ services, Phoenix House will provide 24/7 individualised support from highly qualified and trained support teams.

Councillor Alarice said: “I continue to be overwhelmed and inspired by the innovative way in which Precious Homes are operating within our community in the London borough of Newham. Indeed, the word precious rings out through the service within the community serving the people they support in an unselfish way. I am pleased to see organisations like this operate in a brilliant and friendly way – engaging with the families of the service users and taking their team welfare very seriously to ensure that high results are being delivered.”

Also joining us on the day was local Councillor Ken Clarke who said: “I was delighted to be invited to see the services Phoenix House offers people with complex support needs. Resilience is the key to transforming individual lives and communities and that is embedded in everything Newham Council does. We want all of our residents to have the skills and resources that will allow them to live independently, negotiate common challenges, overcome difficult circumstances and take up opportunities that come their way. The range of facilities at Phoenix House, tailored to a variety of needs, can support people in achieving that.”
