New Stonehaven Care Group Development

Stonehaven Care HomeStonehaven Care Group, which already has care homes in; Brixham, Exeter, Exminster, Okehampton, Bodmin,Tavistock and Westward Ho! is about to build another 30 bed care home with all bedrooms having private ensuite… it’s named ’Evodia House’. The cost of the new build is £3 million and it will bring another 30 jobs to the local area at Westward Ho!

The turf cutting ceremony, which commenced the actual construction project, took place on Friday 31st July. It was attended by Councillor Barry Edwards, Mayor of Northam, the Mayoress Niki Tait and other guests including those associated with the project; Ralphe Stone Director of Stonehaven; Emily Winslow, Stonehaven Marketing; Chris Potter Associates, Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors and two representatives from Morgan Sindall Construction Patrick Newton, Contracts Manager and Graeme Nott, Site Manager. Mr Newton said,” With our local office based in North Devon, we are delighted to be constructing this care home in Westward Ho! and will be employing a predominately local workforce to complete the work on site.”

’Evodia House’ care home will proudly stand immediately next door to Stonehaven’s Donnington House care home, which has already long been the group’s local Westward Ho! flagship and is a lovely ’home from home’ type care home with wonderfully friendly, caring staff; its care team are all experienced in Elderly and Dementia Care and offer long-term care, respite-care and bathing services. ’Evodia House’ will benefit from Donnington House’s established reputation for best practice.

Stonehaven already have experience of a similar development at their Tavistock Care Home where they added a specialist nursing element, The Drake Unit, which has proved very successful.

’Evodia House’ will have generous light, airy and spacious rooms with wide corridors and decor carefully selected following recommended dementia guidelines. The aim is to provide residents with tailored lifestyles, allowing them to continue and develop their own interests and hobbies.

The ambience is heightened by sea-views to Lundy Island and inside by three communal lounges and a cinema facility.

Morgan Sindall and Chris Potter Associates are combining their expertise to construct a first class piece of 21st Century architecture including such details as state of the art: 24 hour heat–exchange ventilation; under floor heating; fire-safety sprinkler system; and, not least, a combination of enhanced (double normal) lighting levels and tasteful decor that has a carefully created tonal balance… all towards scientific research that substantially assists poor-sighted persons and those with dementia.

After the turf cutting Director Ralphe Stone said, ”Building on the success of Donnington House, we are extremely proud of our family business leading the way in excellent residential care for the elderly. We can already sense that ’Evodia House’ is destined to become another very successful venture for Stonehaven Care Group.”
