MP and Under-Secretary of State in the Department of Health and Social Care Visits Bury Home

The MP for Bury North visited a Bury home to have a conversation with residents and hear firsthand some of the challenges that social care providers are facing.

James Firth, who was recently appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department of Health and Social Care visited MHA Epworth Grange where he spent just over an hour speaking with residents.

The visit included a question-and-answer session where James took on board the questions residents and their loved ones had.

Some of the topics that were discussed included social care, the challenges around getting support for people living with dementia, tax on pension age incomes and the treatment of women in Afghanistan.

MHA Epworth Grange provides residential and dementia care for 41 people.

Kay-Allenby Carr, administration manager said: “We have had James visit before, but it has been a while and naturally staff and residents have changed since then.

“It was a great visit, our residents really enjoyed it and asked a lot of very important questions.

“We had some of the relatives of our residents here as well, so it was nice to have questions from both sides.

“The event was very engaging, and it certainly showed how our residents feel about some of the challenges facing social care.

“The conversations were very open and honest, and we spoke about several subjects including care needs, the challenges surrounding social care, including residents getting to see dentists and defence spending.

“With James recently being appointed as the new dental minister, we spoke about the importance of oral hygiene and the links it has with heart issues.

“James had definitely taken some points with him, and we look forward to seeing him again.”
