Monthly Activities For People With Dementia Get Into “Full Swing”

MonthlyPeople supported at pioneering dementia specialist care home, EachStep Blackburn, stepped back in time for a lively 1950s tea party on Friday 26th August. The event kick-started the care home’s innovative new programme of themed events, all aimed at improving the lives of people living with dementia and their relatives.

The fifties themed party took place in the home’s spacious lounge and vintage tea rooms for the people supported at EachStep Blackburn, and their friends and family. They got to enjoy an afternoon of homemade cakes, freshly brewed tea and coffee and live music entertainment from rock and roller Simon Wilkinson.

The 64 bed care home is part of national social care charity, Community Integrated Care, and since opening in May 2016, has fast become a centre of excellence for dementia care, with its leading model of person-centered support and stunning dementia-friendly design.

Phil Benson, Service Manager for EachStep Blackburn, says: “We want every day at EachStep Blackburn to be a celebration so we try to always offer fun things to enjoy and do. We’ve introduced these special themed events to bring together the people we support and their loved ones to celebrate the things that matter the most to them. Every month there’ll be something special – from film nights in our very own cinema, to food festivals and a spooktacular Halloween party.

Phil continues: “We’ve listened really closely to the people we support and their loved ones to understand their hobbies, interests and passions to create a very special and varied programme with the aim of igniting happy memories for people living at Eachstep Blackburn.”
