Maypole Dancing Delights Residents At Colchester Care Home
Residents at Nayland House in Colchester have been skipping their way into summer this month with some traditional Maypole dancing.
Staff at the residential care home arranged for a traditional maypole to be placed in the lounge area at Nayland House for May Day, and its residents couldn’t wait to take part in the ceremonial dance that many of them remembered from their childhood.
Colourful ribbons were woven into complex patterns as music played and Registered Manager, Emma Engutsamy, said the joy on the residents’ faces was clear to see.
She said: “Many of our residents remember dancing around the maypole as children and it was fantastic to see them getting up and moving for our May Day celebrations this year. Everyone was smiling from ear to ear.”
Nayland House is part of AgeCare UK and Director of Care, Jo Mason, is thrilled to hear how much fun its residents are having.
She said: “At Nayland House, we foster a family approach, focusing on enabling residents to live well. It has been lovely to hear about their day of maypole dancing, and a huge thank you to staff for organising.”
