Mayor In Attendance As Local Care Home Celebrates 75 Years With Sponsored Walk

Rush Court, in Wallingford, is part of the Elizabeth Finn Homes group, which marks 75 years this summer since its inception in the late 1940’s.

To mark this important occasion, Rush Court held a sponsored 75 mile walk throughout the month of May where residents, staff and family members have been walking laps around the grounds and gardens.

At 3pm on 31st May the home’s staff and some of the residents participated together in the last lap of the 75 miles led by Helen Vincent in her wheelchair who, as the eldest Rush Court resident, celebrated her 107th birthday on Sunday 28th May.

In attendance to support the final walk was Mayor Dan Beauchamp who also helped to plant a tree in commemoration of the 75 years.

Further celebrations will be held in July with a summer fete when the home and gardens will be open to family, friends and the local community.

Rush Court is an elegant, Queen Anne style house in extensive grounds in the Oxfordshire countryside offering nursing and personal care on a long or short-term basis. It provides a home from home for 47 residents.

“This is a huge milestone in our history and one of which we are immensely proud,” commented Cliff Hutchings, Rush Court General Manager. “Today is a fitting tribute to our founder and to commemorate all the people who have benefitted from the care provided through the work of Elizabeth Finn.”

Elizabeth Finn Homes operates nine care homes across England and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the charity Turn2us.

Founded by Elizabeth Finn, a pioneering philanthropist, who set up the Distressed Gentlefolks’ Aid Association in 1897, originally based in her London home, the association was renamed the Elizabeth Finn Trust in 1999 in recognition of its founder.

All proceeds raised from the sponsored walk will benefit the charity Turn2us, which supports those facing poverty across the UK.
