Local Care Home Ham It Up For Chinese New Year Celebrations

Magnolia Court in Golders Green welcomed the Year of the Pig with a day of celebration and activities, which were a delight for the staff and residents.

Inspired by Chinese culture, the chef cooked up an oriental feast and guests were taught how to correctly hold and use chopsticks which proved tricky but fun. Residents also loved getting together to learn about the history and traditions of the Chinese culture.

Octavian Stanciu, General Manager of Barchester Magnolia Court saw the occasion as the perfect opportunity for residents to do something different and embrace the Asian culture.

He said: “Whether it’s enjoying a tasty Chinese meal or learning about the origins of the mythical lion dance activities like these always provide a fun and engaging way for our residents to celebrate Chinese New Year.

One resident called Peggy said: “I love the vibrant costumes and learning about the Chinese Zodiac animal traits. A person born in the Year of the Pig is said to be intellectually curious, honest, tolerant, loyal, and often make true friends for life, which sounds like one of my friends here.”
