Lifelong Kopite Meets Liverpool Hero On 100th Birthday

Ann Muirhead, a resident at Whetstone Hey care home in Great Sutton, celebrated her 100th birthday in style at a party with family, friends and a very special, surprise guest – retired Liverpool FC player, Ian Callaghan.

As a lifelong Liverpool FC fan, Ann was delighted to meet the former midfielder during a 100th birthday party organised by staff at the Minster Care-run home. Callaghan, who played 857 times for Liverpool, presented Ann with a new Liverpool FC kit signed by all the current squad members, and a copy of his book, Cally on the Ball.

Born and bred in Liverpool, Ann has lived at Whetstone Hey for six years and is a residents’ representative at the home. Ann enjoys spending her free time with friends and family, and claims the secret to her longevity is ‘hard work’.

Commenting on the celebrations, Ann said: “I was so happy to see Ian Callaghan at my party. I have always been a loyal fan of Liverpool FC, and meeting him on my birthday was one of the best gifts I could ask for.”

Tomasz Lasota, Home Manager at Whetstone Hey, added: “Ann is a lovely lady whose positive personality always brings a smile to everyone’s faces, so we were delighted to be able to organise a party for her 100th birthday. It was wonderful to see Ann so happy and surrounded by her friends and family on the day. Everyone at Whetstone Hey would like to wish her many happy returns.”
