Jan And Malcom Renew Wedding Vows After 53 Years

WeddingMalcolm and Jan De Gay renewed their wedding vows after 53 years of marriage on Sunday 14th August, surrounded by 150 guests.

The ceremony was very special because it took place at Brunelcare’s Deerhurst Care Home where Malcolm has lived since January 2015. His wife Jan lives nearby and volunteers at the home; visiting regularly to see Malcolm who receives live-in care at the home.

The care home offered to hold their renewal of vows ceremony and set about organising the large-scale celebrations with the help of volunteers and Brunelcare staff, providing both the ideal party venue and one most suitable for Malcolm.

Malcolm’s best man was Alan Bruton, a resident at the care home. Jan was ‘given away’ by her grandson Tom and touchingly two of Jan and Malcolm’s original bridesmaids were also present and part of the celebrations. Local vicar Jenny Wiltshire of St Stephens, Soundwell, along with the church choir, also gave up their time to hold the renewal of vows ceremony at the home.

Jan said, “It was beyond all expectations and will be a lasting memory. Thanks to everyone at Deerhurst!” and Malcolm added, “It was brilliant. I could do it all again tomorrow!”
