It’s Chills and Thrills Galore as Green Park Nursing Home Gets into the Halloween Spirit!

The people who live at Green Park Nursing Home in Warrington have been unleashing their inner child this week, as they not only celebrate Halloween but also stage their own Mischief Night – and care home colleagues are their unwitting targets!

The home is part of the Orchard Care Homes group, which runs 23 care homes in the Midlands and the North of England.

Events like the Halloween party and Mischief Night are typical of the group’s dedication to enriching their people’s lives, with a commitment to crafting personalised and meaningful experiences that cater to each resident’s unique needs and preferences.

Green Park Nursing Home has three specialist dementia ‘Reconnect’ communities which offer person-centred care for people living with dementia.

These communities are designed to promote independence, inclusion and choice. with spaces for arts and crafts, laundry rooms, gardening tools, and even a DIY workshop, residents are encouraged to dive into hobbies they love, like cooking, painting and sewing.

As part of their Halloween festivities, they hosted an exciting scavenger hunt and a best-dressed competition for residents, family members, and colleagues to participate in.

The home is dedicated to creating a joyful and engaging atmosphere for everyone living at Green Park, emphasising the importance of sensory experiences for residents who live with dementia, to evoke positive emotions and memories.

Residents and loved ones could also enjoy a grand buffet full of fright-themed cakes and canapes, as well as spooky cocktails and a homemade pumpkin pie.

Teresa, a local singer and entertainer performed some of the greatest hits of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and had the whole home dancing along.

Lisa Brakewell, Activities Coordinator at Green Park, said: “Malcolm, one of our residents and a real jokester, has been plotting his jump scares on our unsuspecting staff with his scary mask for weeks! He even went the extra mile to hide a life-size Jason Statham cutout in the nurses’ office to give them a good scare.

“We wanted to add some extra fun for our residents this Halloween so we asked them what they wanted to do and they suggested we play light tricks on some of our colleagues. It’s a really unique twist on traditional Halloween celebrations, and many of our people have really good senses of humour, so it felt like a natural fit!

“Watching them enjoy themselves and play tricks on our colleagues, and each other was absolutely wonderful.”
