Hundreds Attend Community Open Day at New Acomb Care Home

More than 200 members of the local community attended a special open day at Acomb Manor in York to enjoy a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live cooking from celebrity chef Theo Michaels and musical entertainment.

The new 66-bed care home, operated by St Mary’s Care Homes, welcomed visitors for a first look around the completed development, giving them an opportunity to explore its facilities, meet the team and learn more about the care and support it will provide.

The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion, with guests also treated to a specially created ‘A Taste of Yorkshire’ menu by celebrity chef Theo Michaels.

The Yorkshire-inspired canapés included miniature roast beef and horseradish Yorkshire puddings, Whitby smoked haddock and leek tartlets, and traditional Yorkshire parkin, accompanied by an alcohol-free Yorkshire apple and elderflower fizz.

Theo also entertained visitors with a live cooking demonstration, while Acomb Manor’s own chef, Darren, prepared a selection of cakes for the occasion.

The celebrations also featured an impressive floral arch and bouquet created by Sue from local florist Floral Elegance, while Laura from Ink and Craft showcased her handmade crafts to visitors.

Local harpist Hannah Higson provided live musical entertainment throughout the event, helping to create a welcoming atmosphere as visitors explored the new home.

Clare Erskine, Home Manager at Acomb Manor, said: “We were absolutely overwhelmed by the wonderful response from the Acomb community. To see so many people coming through our doors, exploring our beautiful new home and showing such enthusiasm and support was incredibly special for the whole team.

“We’ve put so much care and thought into creating Acomb Manor, and Saturday was a wonderful opportunity to share what we’ve been working towards with the local community.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so memorable. This really is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Acomb Manor, and we can’t wait to welcome our first residents and become part of this fantastic community.”
