Hugh Myddelton House Care Home Celebrates World Food Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Hugh Myddelton House care home in Southgate come together to celebrate cultural diversity through food, sharing and community spirit.

The event brought people from different cultural backgrounds together, with participants proudly sharing dishes from their own traditions and giving others the opportunity to discover new flavours from around the world.

The celebration featured an exciting variety of international cuisines, including Greek, Albanian, Romanian, Azerbaijani, Italian, Filipino, Nepalese and Mauritian dishes, alongside food from many other cultures.

Guests enjoyed sampling the wide selection of homemade food, exchanging stories about their cultural traditions and discovering the personal memories and heritage behind each dish. The gathering created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, celebrating the diversity of the Hugh Myddelton House community.

The culinary experience continued with a delicious dessert prepared by one of the home’s talented Housekeeping Assistants, providing a sweet finish to a memorable occasion.

The celebration demonstrated how food can bring people together, encourage meaningful connections and create opportunities to share experiences across generations and cultures.

World Food Day provided a wonderful opportunity for Hugh Myddelton House to recognise the richness of its community and celebrate the importance of inclusion, friendship and belonging.

General Manager, Mansukh Chander said, “Today was a wonderful celebration of different cultures and an amazing experience for everyone involved. All the food was delicious, but what made the day truly special was the happiness, warmth and sense of togetherness we shared. I feel incredibly proud to be part of this team. We are proud to celebrate diversity and make Hugh Myddelton House a place where everyone feels valued, respected and welcome.”

Residents’ Ambassador Rosa Bertolino said: “As an Italian, I am a real foodie, and I can honestly say that all the dishes from different cultures were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. We celebrate many international days here at Hugh Myddelton House, and these special occasions bring so much colour, happiness and joy to our lives. It is wonderful to experience different cultures, share traditions and come together as one community.”
