Hip, Hip, Hooray for St George’s Day!

It was all dragons and roses all round at Austen House care home, in Lower Earley, Reading, as residents and staff celebrated St George’s Day. Legend has it St George was a soldier in the Roman army who slayed a dragon and saved a princess, the anniversary of his death is celebrated as England’s national day.

In honour of the patron saint of England, staff and residents at the home marked the day decorating some cupcakes and the home for the occasion, learning top facts about St George and tested our knowledge with a fun-filled themed quiz. Also, we were delighted singing and dancing in a live music show with Doug, even learning to Morris dance.

General Manager, Seva Hashimova said: “Everyone at Austen House really enjoyed the festivities. We had everything from baking and quiz to live music and dancing and everyone was really keen to get involved.

Jane, resident at Austen House said: “Celebrating St George’s Day today has been so enjoyable. I especially loved the quiz and learning how to Morris dance. The staff here think of everything to make sure we make the most of occasions like this.
