Hicare Homes Celebrates Care Home Open Day

Hicare embraces friendship and the Community for Care Home Open Day

Care Home Open Day is an annual initiative that seeks to challenge perceptions of residential care by encouraging local communities to actively engage with their local care homes. This year’s theme was “friendship” and the aim was to develop long lasting relationships between care homes, the residents and the local community.

Meadow’s Court and Spencefield Grange both had a “summer holiday” theme and had a variety of games and activities for everyone to get involved with. The homes made the most of the beautiful weather and many games were hosted in their sensory gardens. Some of the games and stalls included:

• Henna – a tradition involving painting temporary tattoos on hands and feet.

• Skittles, Ping Pong and Table Football

• Food and Cake stalls

• Limbo

• And much more.

Meadow’s Court were honoured to receive a lovely musical performance by two musicians from Music in Hospitals who played the guitar and sang summer favourites. They were also visited by the very talented Marina from their local church, St Andrews who gave an amazing performance on her harp playing a variety of musical pieces including ‘Favourite Things’ from the Sound of Music!

Spencefield Grange were visited by the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service from their local Eastern Fire Station who showed the residents and guests around the fire engine and joined in with all the activities. Spencefield Grange finished off the day with a disco in the afternoon.

Overall, a wonderful event with plenty of new friendships created. Marketing Manager Rupinder Sandhu said “We have been taking part in Care Home Open Day for five years now and during this time, we have developed strong bonds within our local community and our resident’s have developed some very meaningful friendships. It is inspiring to see care homes across the UK getting involved with Care Home Open Day and I am very proud we are a part of that.”
