Healthcare Homes Inspires Young Musician’s Journey to Junior Duke Success

Healthcare Homes have recently supported 11-year-old Charlie Hurry in achieving his Junior Duke award.

Charlie’s connection with Healthcare Homes began through his Nan, who visits her good friend at Bedhampton Nursing Home regularly. During one of her visits, she approached the care home with a special request – to support her grandson, Charlie, in completing his Junior Duke award. The Junior Duke, designed for children aged 5-13 years, is an award program that encourages young individuals to recognise their abilities, explore new talents, and develop their passions.

Healthcare Homes eagerly embraced the opportunity to support Charlie, inviting him into Bedhampton Nursing Home for a musical performance for the residents. Charlie, an accomplished flutist who started playing when he was just 7 years old, treated the residents to a delightful show of well-known tunes.

The interaction between Charlie and the residents was, Wendy, Activities Co-ordinator at Healthcare Homes said, heartwarming; sparking conversations about the residents’ own musical experiences. Following the performance, Charlie took the time to engage with the residents, creating a meaningful connection between generations.

Impressed by Charlie’s talent and enthusiasm, Bedhampton Nursing Home extended the collaboration by inviting him back. This time, Charlie assisted the Activities Co-ordinator in conducting a group games session for the residents, adding an extra layer of joy and entertainment to their daily lives.

Healthcare Homes believes in fostering strong connections with the communities surrounding its care homes, and this heartwarming initiative exemplifies the company’s commitment to enriching the lives of both residents and the local community.

“It has been a pleasure to support Charlie in his Junior Duke journey. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed his musical performances, and him getting involved in group activities has been a lovely change for the residents.” added Wendy

This heartening collaboration not only showcases Healthcare Homes’ dedication to the well-being of its residents but also highlights the company’s role as an active and supportive member of the local community.
