HC-One Care Homes Mark National Pizza Day

HC-One care homes across the UK have been marking National Pizza Day which takes place on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Residents and colleagues at HC-One care homes enjoyed celebrating the fun day dedicated to one of the world’s most beloved foods – pizza.

HC-One care homes enjoyed marking the day by indulging in a slice or two of their all-time favourite pizzas as well as taking part in a variety of activities. These included pizza parties to indulge in the iconic comfort food, making their own personalised culinary masterpiece pizzas from scratch and experimenting by creating new creative sauces, dough recipes and topping combinations.

At HC-One’s Brierton Lodge Care Home, in Hartlepool, County Durham, Chef Keith Parkins created a selection of different pizzas for residents to try from across the globe, including the Neapolitan pizza from Italy, a Sicilian-style pizza, and a New York-style slice. Residents enjoyed the pizza masterpieces and broadened their taste buds by tasting pizzas with unconventional toppings, including pineapple and avocado to spice up their pizza dining experience.

Chef Keith Parkins at HC-One’s Brierton Lodge Care Home, said:
“It was great to create a variety of different pizzas for residents to try to encourage them to explore different flavours and pizza styles. Residents thoroughly enjoyed broadening their taste buds and some have even said they’ve now found their new favourite pizza topping!”

At HC-One’s Summerville Care Home, in Warrington, Cheshire, a ‘Pizza and Pop Day’ was organised to say a big thank you to colleagues for all of their hard work and achievements over the past year.

A number of different pizzas were ordered from the home’s local pizzeria, including classic favourites as well as a few new pizzas to try and explore different flavours. Colleagues enjoyed complimenting their chosen pizzas by pairing their pizzas with their chosen soft drink, whilst discussing and learning about which beverages complement the various flavours of pizza.

Katie Bond, HC-One’s Summerville Care Home Manager, commented:
“It was great to be able to treat our colleagues at Summerville to a treat by hosting a ‘Pizza and Pop Day’ to celebrate all of their achievements over the past year. Colleagues enjoyed reflecting on the year gone by whilst indulging in trying different pizzas and pop from the home’s local pizzeria.”

At HC-One’s Hollymere House and Primrose House Care Homes, in Haslington, Crewe, Cheshire, a special Garden Pizza Party was held for colleagues and residents to enjoy socialising whilst indulging in their favourite pizzas.

Residents enjoyed chatting to each other, listening to music and even dancing along to the tunes. Afterwards residents and colleagues enjoyed the variety of foods on offer to choose from at the home’s buffet table, including the range of pizza toppings to try.

Dawn Sadler, HC-One’s Primrose House Care Home Manager, stated:
“Residents and colleagues had a wonderful time at the home’s Garden Pizza Party. A lot of fun was had by all and residents and colleagues enjoyed trying the selection of pizzas on offer.”

Alison Brown, HC-One’s Hollymere House Care Home Manager, remarked:
“Our residents love pizza so had so much fun trying all the different doughs, sauces, and toppings galore, and sharing their thoughts on their favourite savoury pizzas with each other. It’s been a very fun, laughter filled and tasty day!”
