Haydock Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday

Residents and staff at a care home in Merseyside have joined together to celebrate resident Olive Kenny’s 100th birthday.

Lymewood Court Nursing Home in Haydock, St Helens, provides specialist nursing and respite care to its elderly residents and has been home to Olive since June 2019.

Staff organised a spectacular party for Olive to celebrate her very special day, with balloons, singing, lots of presents and the local Costco in Haydock donating her 100th birthday cake.

Olive received a very special card from the Queen which she enjoyed showing all her fellow residents and staff and was serenaded via Video messaging, courtesy of the home’s entertainment team. And, providing the ‘icing on the cake’, Olive’s family were able to send her birthday wishes via WhatsApp.

Born in St Helens, Olive has lived locally all her life. After leaving school at 14 she worked at a local rug factory and the local fish and chip shop, where she met husband John. They married when she was 21 and went on to have three children, John, Marliyn and Marlene and a number of grandchildren.

Lymewood Court’s Interim Home Manager, Emilia Jagla, summed up the day, saying: “Olive is a delight to know, support and love and we were honoured to have shared such a  special day with her. She loves to chat with anyone who is happy to sit with her, enjoying her company.”
