Hamza Yassin Grants Care Home Resident’s Wish

St George’s Court Care Home resident, Joan recently had her wish granted when she was invited to go backstage and meet her icon, Hamza Yassin.

Joan, who is a lover of creative arts and nature, has been a fan of Hamza ever since his appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2022. After learning about his love for nature and seeing the stunning wildlife photos he captures, Joan became an instant fan.

“I voted for Hamza every single week on Strictly Come Dancing — sometimes twice,” said Joan. “I was absolutely thrilled when he went on to win the competition!”

Joan has continued to follow Hamza’s journey ever since, enjoying his adventures and breathtaking photography of the natural world.

One day, Joan was scrolling through her Instagram feed when she saw Hamza was going on tour with a show entitled, ‘My Life Behind the Lens’. After seeing this, Joan immediately told the team at St George’s Court and said that she would love to attend.
Knowing how much this would mean to Joan, the team began looking at ticket availability and whether they could grant her wish. As a wheelchair user, they were delighted to find some accessible tickets at the show in Lincoln and immediately booked them!

Joan was over the moon when she heard the news and decided she would make a special gift to give to Hamza at his show. Joan is a talented artist and has explored many different art forms – from stained glass window making and drawing, to watercolour painting and embroidery.

She decided to make a heartfelt embroidery of Hamza’s beloved dog, Midge, who is regularly featured on his Instagram account.

After two months of excitement, show day finally arrived and Joan could not wait. With her handmade embroidery of Midge in hand, she headed off to the Engine Shed in Lincoln.
The team at the Engine Shed was absolutely fantastic and arranged for Joan to be seated in the second row with a brilliant view of the show.

Joan had what she describes as ‘The best day ever’, which was made even more special when she was invited to go backstage and give her embroidered gift to Hamza.
