Greater Independence For Disabled Residents As West Sussex Care Home Marks 60th Anniversary
Disabled people in Rustington stand to benefit after Leonard Cheshire Disability opened a refurbished flat supporting independent living at its St Bridget’s Cheshire Home.
The accommodation enables disabled people to learn how to live more independent lives.
With the latest equipment and facilities adapted for disabled people, the flat has private kitchens and bathrooms, allowing three disabled people to cook meals, wash and dress without assistance.
The project was supported by a grant from the Monday Charitable Trust and the accessible kitchens were donated and fitted by Howdens Joinery.
It has been completed in the month the home, which currently supports 38 physically disabled people, marks its 60th anniversary.
“Disabled people will find the flat offers a chance to learn new skills, gain confidence and have an excellent quality of life,” said Marcus Richards, Service Manager at St Bridget’s Cheshire Home.
Hundreds of local people participated in a week of anniversary celebrations earlier this month, joining residents and staff for their diamond jubilee.
“The games and activities we organised were a particular success, with everyone attending commenting on how much they enjoyed themselves,” added Mr Richards.
