Gillingham Care Home Goes Football Crazy Over AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust Visit

Residents at Care South’s Fern Brook Lodge care home recently put their footballing skills to the test with another visit from the AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust team, who were warmly welcomed by the home.

The team made their way around the home, making sure everyone was able to get involved, using specially designed seated football games to bring out the competitive streak in residents. The team then treated the residents to some expert demonstrations, talking everyone through the intense training and exercise regimes that the Cherries players undertake to reach the highest level.

Hannah Thompson, Activities Lead at Fern Brook Lodge, commented: “It’s great to welcome the team from AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust back to Fern Brook Lodge. The residents absolutely love interacting with the coaches and getting involved in the activities. Who knew we had such a crop of sporting aces in our midst? We can’t wait for their next visit already! The football sessions that AFC Bournemouth run are an important part of our activities at the home, helping to keep our residents engaged and active with input from the community.”

The visit from the community sports team was thanks to the ongoing partnership between AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust and Care South, which began in 2014. The partnership allows residents, home care clients and staff to get involved in a variety of activities, including meeting players, coffee mornings, walking football and visits to the Vitality Stadium.
