Generations Come Together At Winchester Care Home

Cubs-1Generations were bridged when a Hampshire care home hosted a visit by cubs.

More than 20 Tiger cubs from the 6th Winchester Scout Group spent an evening at Colten Care’s Abbotts Barton home in Winchester.

They split into four groups and interacted with residents, asking questions about their lives.

The session ended with the cubs discussing what they had learned from each resident.

Michael Tibble, a Colten Companion, who organised the visit, said: “It was a lovely evening and everyone taking part said how much they had enjoyed it.

“This was the second time we’ve organised such a visit and it certainly won’t be the last. It really brought the generations together.”

Cubs-2Nick Morgan, 6th Winchester Tiger Cubs Leader, added: “The cubs and leaders love our visits to Abbotts Barton. It’s what scouting is all about – fun, adventure and good citizenship.

“It amazes me how enthusiastically the residents and cubs interact, easily chatting across the generations. We all leave with a great buzz.

“6th Winchester Scouts are currently establishing a new headquarters, just around the corner from Abbotts Barton. We hope to be able to host more events like this and continue to bridge the generation gap and encourage community gatherings,” said Nick.

Residents taking part in the ‘Bridging the Generations’ evening ranged in age from the mid-70’s to late 80’s.

The cubs presented a bird table to the Worthy Home home as a thank you gift.
