Football Comes Home For Local Care Home Resident
Football came home for a resident at Hilton Park Care Home in Bottisham when his wish to watch the team that he used to manage came true.
Steve O’Donohue has been a resident at Hilton Park Care Home for the past 18 months but in his younger days was well known locally for his involvement in the non-league football scene, most notably as the Manager of Mildenhall Town Football Club.
After expressing a wish to watch a live game of football, the activities team at Hilton Park made contact with representatives from Mildenhall Town and were delighted when they received an invite for Steve, and his wife Karen, to watch the August Bank Holiday Monday derby match between Mildenhall Town and Cambridge City, another of the clubs that Steve has an association with.
Officials from both clubs took time to meet with Steve and he was re-introduced to several of his old acquaintances who were delighted to see him and Karen and took the time to reminisce about their experiences on and off the pitch together.
Geanina Tinca, General Manager of Hilton Park Care Home, said:
“Stephen’s love for football goes back many years so it was amazing for us to be able to grant his wish to go to watch one of the teams that he used to manage. When he came back to the home afterwards, he had the biggest smile on his face and was so happy that so many people had remembered him.”
