Flash, Bang, Wallop, What A Picture! Care Home Residents Celebrate World Photography Day

Residents and staff at the care home came together to celebrate World Photography Day with a very special whole-home activity. Everyone was invited to share photographs from their childhood and younger years, which were brought together on a display board in the lounge. The display created a wonderful collection of memories and provided plenty of opportunities for laughter and conversation.

World Photography Day is an annual day of tribute to the art, craft, science and history of photography. An important and accessible art form, photography is brilliant for instantly capturing moments and memories. It is a beautiful way to tell a story, expess emotions and preserve the history taking place all around us.

Residents had great fun trying to identify staff members and fellow residents from their younger days, with plenty of laughs and some very interesting guesses along the way! Residents also brought along their favourite photographs and enjoyed sharing the stories and memories behind them.

One particularly special moment came from Iris, who shared a photograph of herself as the Village Queen. It was a wonderful reminder of such a significant and cherished chapter of her life and gave everyone the opportunity to hear more about this special memory.

Throughout the afternoon, many memories and stories came to life as residents and staff shared their photographs and experiences. The whole team joined in, making it a truly whole-home approach that brought everyone together, encouraged conversation, celebrated treasured memories and strengthened the team spirit.

Shayla the Activities Co-ordinator at Kingswood Court commented: “It was lovely to see everyone getting involved in our World Photography Day celebration. Looking at everyone’s younger photographs gave us lots of laughs, especially when residents were trying to work out who was who! It was also really special to hear the stories behind everyone’s favourite photographs and to see how many wonderful memories came to life. Activities like this are a fantastic way of bringing residents and staff together, encouraging conversation and celebrating the unique experiences and memories that make everyone who they are.”
