Exotic Animals Amaze Great Crosby Care Home Residents

Residents at RMBI Care Co. Home The Tithebarn, in Great Crosby, have recently enjoyed a friendly visit from a wide range of exotic creatures, including a bearded dragon, an African spurred tortoise, a skunk, and a fluffy rabbit to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week.

The residents were astonished and delighted to meet the animals, who were brought in by a specialist from Home Safari Animal Assisted Therapy, an organisation that promotes animal education and animal therapy. Residents had the opportunity to learn interesting facts about the animals’ habitats, diets and welfare.

Taking part in this activity, resident Dorothy Woodward was amazed when she held Susan, the bearded dragon. She said: “I was most surprised by the feel of the bearded dragon’s skin. I have to say, it was a little rough. But she was so calm when I cuddled her.”

Resident Terry Doherty took the chance to stroke Jethro, the skunk. He said: “The skunk was so small but was friendly and very fluffy. I enjoyed stroking it.”

Amber Chislett, The Tithebarn’s Activities Coordinators, said: “It was really lovely to see the residents’ faces light up when these animals came in! They brought joy to our residents, boosted their mood and encouraged social interaction.”
