Drive For Alzheimer With Langdale Care Homes Event
Langdale Care Homes have recently organised the first ‘ Drive for Alzheimer with Langdale Care Homes’ event with the goal of raising awareness around Alzheimer and donations for the Alzheimer Society as well as our residents at Langdale Lodge Care Home in Chesterfield.
The main organisers : Joanne Gelsthorpe, care assistant at Langdale Lodge Care home, Chesterfield and Alexandra Ilea, marketing officer at Langdale care Homes, and were also supported by Bushra Chughtai, activity coordinator from Acorn Hill Nursing home, Leicester who drove from Leicester to join the event.
The drive started at Chesterfield Town Hall, where participants had the pleasure to be greeted by the Mayor of Chesterfield , Councillor Glenys Falconer and consort , Councillor Keith Falconer who also joined the drive.
Dawn Grindey from the Chesterfield Royal British Legion & Ex Servicemens also joined the drive and drove vintage and ww2 cars from Chesterfield to Derby with stops in Matlock and Matlock Bath.
Mr Peter ( Lea) Whitehouse was lead driver, driving his very own Daimler ( Dingo) armoured car. Joanne Gelsthorpe together with Mr Whitehouse organised our route and got the participants together.
The reason, say the organisers that they chose these cars for the drive is that the main goal was to raise awareness around Alzheimer, and what’s better to get people’s attention then driving vintage and ww2 cars plastered with banners , balloons and Alzheimer’s posters.
Locals stopped to engage , whcih gave the organiser’s a chance to talk about our event, about Alzheimer , sharing stories, and meeting some very interesting people along the way, and of course, raising money .
A grand a total of £500 was raised towards will be split between Alzheimer’s Society and residents from Langdale Lodge Care Home, Chesterfield!
