CQC Rates Hartford Care Home In Hampshire As “Outstanding”

Tegfield House, a Hampshire care home run by Hartford Care, has received an “outstanding” overall rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The inspector’s summary on Tegfield House in Chilbolton Avenue, Winchester, said:

“People and their relatives told us the care they received at Tegfield House was exceptionally good and we saw that people were enabled to participate in assessments and care planning, and direct their care plans to ensure they could lead fulfilling lives.”

Following the CQC inspection between 3rd and 5th June this year, the home was also rated “outstanding” for both its care and responsiveness.

In her “outstanding” assessment of the care provided at Tegfield, the CQC inspector commented: “We were told about examples of exceptional care provided by staff. These were celebrated in the service; however, staff members did not see their exceptional practice as anything more than what should be provided.”

She added: “Throughout our inspection, we saw people being offered choices, for example, where people had meals, where they wanted to sit, what they wanted to eat and what activities they wanted to participate in.”

The “outstanding” rating for its responsive service was awarded for the way in which Tegfield House tailors its services ‘to meet the needs of individual residents and delivered to ensure flexibility, choice and continuity of care’.

The inspector noted: “People received exceptionally person-centred care and support. Staff knew people very well, they knew who the person had been before they came to the home and about their interests and families, the kind of information that made people individuals. Staff could start and hold a conversation with people because they knew them so well.”

This is the second “outstanding” rating that Hartford Care has been awarded, the first being for Malden House in Sidmouth, Devon in May 2018.

Commenting on the “outstanding” assessment, Sean Gavin, Hartford Care’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “This is a magnificent achievement for Tegfield House of which we are all immensely proud.

“Huge congratulations to Jo Aitken, the home’s manager, and her superb team who have worked tirelessly to attain such incredibly high standards at Tegfield. We are delighted that their hard work has been recognised with this fully deserved outstanding rating.”

Home Manager Jo Aitken commented: “I am completely overwhelmed by this overall rating for our wonderful Tegfield family. In our last inspection, we received a ‘good’ rating which was the incentive we needed to go one better this time – and we did it!

“Our priorities have always been to ensure our residents receive the best possible care at all times and without exception. We treat them all as unique individuals and do everything we can to make their lives as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.”
