Couple At Sheffield Care Home Celebrate Diamond Anniversary

Barry & Jean 05A couple at Silver Lodge Care Home celebrated 60 years of being happily married with a party at the home.

Barry Seymour (83) from Firth Park and Jean Seymour (85) from Shiregreen celebrated the milestone anniversary at the home with more than 30 of their friends and family, including Barry’s cousin, David Seymour, who was a presenter on Look North.

Barry, who was an Engineer and Jean, who worked for Sheffield Council as a book binder, met at City Hall in Sheffield during a Saturday night dance at the time when Barry was completing his National Service.

The couple had one son, professional golfer Christopher Seymour, who was sadly killed in a tragic accident in Sri Lanka when he was 27.

Barry Seymour said: “We often get asked what the secret to a long and happy marriage is and to be honest, there isn’t one! We have spent many happy years together and it was great to celebrate our 60 years of marriage. We would like to say a big thank you to the home for organising the lovely cake and celebration and thank you to all our friends and family who made our day extra special.”

Jayne Vickers, Manager of Silver Lodge, said: “It was fantastic to be part of Barry and Jean’s special day and lovely to see how happy they were surrounded by their family and friends. All our residents enjoyed a toast to the happy couple and we’d like to say a big congratulations to Barry and Jean.”

Silver Lodge Care Home is part of Akari Care and provides residential care for up to 32 elderly residents, some of whom need dementia care.
