Community Responds to Birthday Card Appeal for 100 year Old Brigid

A local care home resident who was born on 24 December 1921 will turn 100 on Christmas Eve this year.  Brigid, who now lives at Cheverton Lodge Care Home in Islington, will be 100 years young on 24 December 2021.

Brigid has no surviving family and so Cheverton Lodge turned to the local community to help make her 100th birthday an extra special one. They asked locals to send Brigid a birthday card hoping to reach the target of 100 cards to fill the home with birthday love for Brigid.

The home has been truly amazed at the response to the birthday card appeal with over 150 cards being delivered for Brigid so far, and they are still coming in thick and fast!  Not only that but the home has received a video message from Councillor Troy Gallagher, the Mayor of Islington, and Councillor Kaya Comer-Schwartz, the Leader of the Council, visited Cheverton Lodge to hand deliver a birthday card, a cake and flowers for Brigid and to wish her happy birthday in person.  Messages and gifts are still flooding in and local baker has promised to deliver a beautiful cake on Christmas Eve in time for Brigid’s birthday party.

As well as appealing for cards, Maria Martinez – Sanchez Life Enrichment Coordinator at Cheverton Lodge, has arranged a birthday celebration for Brigid on Christmas Eve with a special entertainer. Brigid will be joined for a glass or two of fizz by residents and team members from Cheverton Lodge and Head Chef Laeeq is planning a birthday menu to include all of Brigid’s favourite foods.

Earl Elliott, General Manager of Cheverton Lodge, said: “We’ve been blown away by the response from the community, everyone has been so kind.  Brigid cannot believe all of the cards, gifts and lovely messages she is receiving.  Everyone at Cheverton Lodge is thoroughly enjoying spoiling her rotten!”
