Clacton Care Home Resident Celebrates 70th Wedding Anniversary with Royal Congratulations

A care home resident has celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary with her husband during a special celebration at Little Holland Hall in Clacton, where the couple were also presented with a congratulatory card from The King and Queen.

Barbara Lagsding, who has lived at the home since March this year, marked the milestone alongside her husband, Les Lagsding, family, fellow residents and staff.
The couple first met at a weekly dance in Eastham. Les returned week after week before Barbara finally agreed to go on a date with him, with their first outing together being a trip to the cinema.

They went on to marry in 1956 and have shared seven decades together, raising two daughters, Kerry and Joanne, and later welcoming three grandchildren.

Asked about the secret to a long and happy marriage, Les said it was important to “give each other space”, while Barbara joked: “Only ask for things when he’s in a good mood!”

Looking back over 70 years together, the couple said their happiest memories were their wedding day and the births of their two daughters.

Sarah Totman, registered manager at Little Holland Hall said: “It was such a lovely day and a real honour to celebrate with Barbara and Les.

“Seeing them together after 70 years of marriage is incredibly special, and you can still see the warmth and affection they have for one another.

“Everyone at the home enjoyed being part of the celebration, and receiving a card from The King and Queen made the occasion even more memorable for them and their family.”
