Christmas Comes Early for Chislehurst Care Home Residents

Staff at RMBI Care Co. Home Prince George Duke of Kent Court, in Chislehurst, pulled out all the stops this week to create some early Christmas cheer for their residents.

Eager to help residents enjoy the colourful Christmas displays around their community, staff at the care home took residents to Ruxley Manor Garden Centre, in Orpington, and Polhill Garden Centre, in Sevenoaks. Residents had a great time taking in the local festivities.

“It was so heart-warming to see children smiling and all the lights, sparkles and décor of this time of year,” said resident Edna Rockall at the Home, which supports older people with residential care, nursing and residential dementia support.

Whilst resident Dick Kingsland loved the journey to the garden centres, saying the green fields reminded him of his childhood, growing up in Sandwich, Kent. He even shared his fond memories with the group.

Prince George Duke of Kent Court’s Activities Coordinator, Diane Connor, said:
“Our residents had a fantastic time getting into the Christmas spirit and immersing themselves in their local communities. We often find that nature, the environment, or simply having a change of scenery can evoke memories as well as create new ones, so we’re keen to support our residents to have different experiences.”

“The Christmas trips are just the start of festive events at our care home. During December, we’ll have a busy schedule which includes Christmas carols singers, staff celebrating Elf Day, local school visits and, of course, Christmas isn’t complete without a visit from Father Christmas,” added Diane.
