Chinese Musicians Bring Melodies Of Tradition To Cambridge Manor Care Home

Cambridge Manor Care Home hosted a unique musical concert by visiting professional musicians from China last week who performed on a range of traditional Chinese instruments exclusively for residents and their relatives.

The musicians were in Cambridge as part of the 2024 Cambridge Chinese Music & Culture Festival which aims to showcase the beauty of customary Chinese music, foster cultural exchanges between China and the UK, and provide a unique opportunity for music enthusiasts in the UK to experience master-level performances of Chinese traditional music.

They made a special stop on their tour during their busy schedule and were warmly welcomed.

Playing not only to a packed lounge area full of residents, relatives and friends of TLC, the guests also spent time visiting nursing residents to ensure they could also enjoy the wonderful music. Residents who wished to hear and see members of the group were given their own private bedside concert throughout the afternoon.

One of Cambridge Manor’s residents, Jennifer Hones, had a front row seat and commented,
“The concert was very different, and it was nice to hear different music played in a different way. I spoke to one of the musicians who took her time to show me the instrument she was playing and explain to me how it’s played. It was the first time I’d seen and heard the music and would definitely enjoy hearing it again”.

Alex Wortley, Business Development Manager, said of the event,
“We were honoured and delighted to welcome the group to Cambridge Manor who gave our residents some very special performances. We were spellbound by the unique sounds and exceptional talent of all the performers during the concert and privileged to host such an outstanding afternoon. The sounds are so unique and the instruments themselves are beautiful, so it was a joy to be able to see them in our home”.
