Care Staff hike for Dementia-Friendly Equipment

A group of seven people from care village, Belong Warrington, are helping to change the lives of people living with dementia, following a climb up England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike, to raise £5,000 for life transforming equipment.

The team of volunteers took the Wasdale route up the 3,300ft high mountain, all sponsored to generate funds to purchase ‘Vecta Deluxe’ sensory equipment, which provides stimulation to those unable to engage in other activities. It turns a room into a therapeutic environment for people receiving end of life care or living with dementia.

Obtaining a Vecta Deluxe has been part of a series of fundraising activities across a number of Belong Villages, including sponsored climbs and long-distance bike challenges, all to generate funds for the state-of-the-art equipment.

Rachel Pepperdine, experience coordinator at Belong Warrington commented, “Hiking up Scafell Pike was a rewarding challenge, as we were able to begin raising money to provide our customers with equipment that helps to improve their quality of life. The results from our other villages using such equipment have been really encouraging; therefore I think we will find this a real boon in our support for those living with dementia.”
