Care South Residents And Team Complete 3KM Poole Walking Challenge

Two Ringwood residents went the distance to complete a 3km charity walk in Poole with support from their care home team.

Betty and Harry, who both live at St Ives House care home in Ringwood, joined the Care South team for the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity’s annual Walk for Wards event at Upton Country Park. Harry walked the route while Betty was assisted in her wheelchair by the St Ives House team.  Care South supported the event.

In total, more than 30 people made up the Care South team, including residents, relatives, staff and families across the care provider’s Dorset-based homes, who took on the 3km route of the charity event. Meanwhile, residents from Alexandra House and Elizabeth House care homes in Poole joined in with a warm-up led by BH Live before the start and cheered from the sidelines as participants finished the challenge.

Betty said: “I enjoyed being outdoors in the fresh air with the other people taking part. I last came to Upton Country Park quite a few years ago so it was nice to come back.”

Fellow resident, Harry, said:
“It was very well set-up. I visited Upton Country Park a long time ago, so I enjoyed seeing it again.”

Music at Walk for Wards was provided by the team from community radio station, Hot Radio, as well as funk and soul band, Late Shift, with food provided to all participants by Rapid Relief Team (RRT).

Hayley Harris, Corporate Fundraiser for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity, said:
“We’re so grateful for Care South’s continued involvement and were delighted to welcome so many residents and team members to Walk for Wards. Their fantastic enthusiasm and support helps to make the event a success each year, raising vital funds for our hospitals which care for people across Dorset.”

St Ives House care home, which is run by Care South, provides residential, respite, and dementia care to residents. A dedicated activities team organises a daily programme of events to bring residents together to socialise and build friendships.

Emma Cotton, Home Manager for St Ives House, said:
“We are so proud of Betty and Harry for taking part in this year’s Walk for Wards event. It was wonderful to see how much they enjoyed the day while getting outdoors and feeling part of the action. At Care South, we are keen to enable our residents to take part in events that allow them to continue to feel part of the community to boost their feelings of connection and sense of belonging.”
