Care Provider Celebrates Employee Achievements At National Awards Ceremony

providerTwo care homes and thirteen employees from across the UK have been honoured as part of an awards programme developed by Shaw healthcare.

More than 200 people gathered at The Heythrop Resort and Spa in Oxfordshire for the annual Shaw Star Awards, which aims to reward and celebrate the achievements of outstanding staff members from amongst the 4,600 staff working across more than 80 of Shaw’s UK facilities.

Shaw’s Elizabeth House care home in Bognor Regis and Orchard House, on the outskirts of Hereford, won the two facility awards, while individual winners included Paula Wynne, head cook at Beech House care home in Kettering; Rhian Brickell-White, rewarded for Clinical Excellence at Cwm Celyn in south Wales and Maria Thomas, a team leader at Wood House in Bristol who was named as Inspirational Individual.

Alan Riley, a manager in his fifth year at Waverley House care home in Leominster shared the Outstanding Management Contribution award with “unsung hero” Paul DeDuonni, who has been part of Shaw healthcare’s finance team for more than 10 years. Other winners were nominated by colleagues and selected by a panel of judges from Shaw healthcare’s executive team in categories such as Happiness, Exceptional Leader and Administrator of the Year.

Jeremy Nixey, chief executive of Shaw healthcare, said: “We’re now in the eighth year of the Shaw Star Awards; an evening which truly gives us the opportunity to recognise staff across the company for their hard work, dedication and genuine care that they put into their jobs.

“It really is an achievement to be shortlisted, let alone take home an award, as all nominations come from fellow colleagues, service users and their families. It’s a night of celebrating the real difference that these incredible individuals make to the quality of care provided, whether in a small, everyday task or the overseeing of an entire home.”
