Care Home Staff Record Fundraising CD

THE manager and staff from a Ferndown care home took to the recording studio to ‘lay down a track’ to benefit people living with dementia.

The caring crooners from Colten Care’s Fernhill recorded their own rendition of Petula Clark’s hit Downtown at Active Music in Penn Hill, Poole.

Lead Dementia Nurse Vicky Coe explained: “Myself and the rest of The Fernhill Singers had a fabulous time recording the song.

“It’s all been pretty amazing really. We only decided to make the record about seven weeks ago and we have been practising hard every Monday night since.

“Some of the staff haven’t even sung in front of others before, so going into a professional recording studio and actually making our own CD has been both nerve wracking and thrilling at the same time.”

The Fernhill Singers were accompanied on the track by keyboard player Mark Bushell who visits Fernhill every week to entertain residents and gave his services on the CD for free.

Profits from the sales of the song will be used to help support people who are living with dementia.

The CD – entitled Making Magic Happen – was officially launched at Fernhill’s Christmas lights switch-on on December 8 and copies are available for a suggested donation of £7, from the home or by phoning: 01202 651800.
