Care Home Residents Strike Up A Passion For Bowling

Residents from a dedicated dementia home near Bournemouth have discovered a passion for ten pin bowling.

The party from Colten Care’s Fernhill in Longham, enjoyed a trip to Hollywood Bowl in Tower Park, Poole, where they tried their hand at bowling for the first time.

Colten Companion Anne-Marie Knight, explained: “When I organised the trip I had no idea whether people would really take to it. But at Fernhill we work very hard to ensure our residents lead normal lives, with interesting and stimulating experiences – and I have to say bowling was a roaring success.”

She continued: “We did the ‘VIP Experience’, with a private lounge area and drinks and snacks and everyone amazed me by wanting to take part.

“Some of the residents used a special bowling aide to help them tip the heavy balls down onto the lane and there was much clapping and cheering as the pins toppled.

“One of our residents Ben Scavolo was determined to do it the “proper way” however and we were all very impressed when he put his fingers in a ball and launched it towards the skittles.

“It was fabulous fun and we’ll certainly be going bowling again soon.”
