Care Home Residents Enjoy Virtual Beach Day
Residents and staff at The Old Vicarage, a residential care home in Sherborne, enjoyed a day of sunshine as they hosted a delightful virtual beach day, which was filled with nostalgic memories and classic seaside fun, bringing the joy of the coast right to the heart of the care home.
The day was packed with activities designed to evoke memories of trips to the seaside.
Residents and staff alike dressed up in their favourite beachwear, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere. The event kicked off with residents reminiscing about their own past experiences at the beach, as they watched film clips of sandy shores and listened to the soothing sounds of the sea.
The immersive experience was complete with the sounds of bustling beaches, the laughter of a Punch & Judy show, and the familiar cries of seagulls.
A spontaneous sing-along soon broke out, with residents and staff joining in on classic tunes like “Beside the Seaside” and “Summer Holiday,” adding to the joyful spirit of the day.
The highlight of the event was the range of interactive, sensory activities that brought the beach to life. Residents enthusiastically participated in making sandcastles, crabbing, and playing hook-a-duck, with plenty of laughter shared. A lively game of catch with beach balls added to the excitement, ensuring that everyone was engaged and having fun.
No seaside visit would be complete without a traditional fish and chip lunch. The Abbey Friar, a well-loved local fish and chip shop in Sherborne, provided a delicious meal that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
As the residents savoured their lunch, they were pleasantly surprised by the arrival of an ice cream van, which pulled up right outside the dining room. Residents relished the opportunity to enjoy a classic ’99’ ice cream cone, complete with Mr Whippy and a Flake – the perfect end to a perfect day.
