Care Home Praised By Residents In National Survey

Birch Green Care Home in SkelmersdaleA West Lancashire care home is celebrating after scoring 100 per cent ratings in more than half the categories of a nationwide survey to determine residents’ views of standards.

The results of the Your Care Rating survey show that Birch Green Care Home in Skelmersdale – part of the Springhill Care Group operating three homes in Lancashire and Bristol – was given an overall performance rating (OPR) score of 858 out of 1,000.

The home scored 100 per cent ratings in 13 of the 23 criteria it was judged on, exceeding the national average in these categories.

Areas of complete satisfaction included: privacy, feeling safe and secure, variety of choice in food, easy access to outdoor spaces, medical attention and independence at bedtime.

Carol Nickeas, general manager at Birch Green Care Home said: “We are happy to hear that our residents are satisfied with the care and services they receive here. This reflects our key purpose that people are at the centre of everything we do, and listening to our residents enables us to identify what is important to them, meaning we can continue delivering the highest standards of care.”

Birch Green Care Home is part of the Springhill Care Group, which operates two other homes, Riversway in Bristol and Springhill in Accrington, along with Affinity Supporting People, a supported living service, also in Accrington.

Now in its third year, the Your Care Rating survey is the country’s largest and most authoritative survey of care home residents. The nationwide survey gives residents a voice, putting their care at the heart of understanding more about how well care homes perform.

More than 21,000 residents in 1,034 care homes across the UK took part. Each care home was given an overall score based on resident feedback across four broad themes; Staff and Care, Home Comforts, Choice and Having a Say, and Quality of Life.

The survey was compiled by leading research company Ipsos MORI with input from the care home operators taking part, plus the National Care Forum and Care England. This means the survey is the most authoritative of its type, and is also the country’s largest, capturing more views of residents than any other.

All of this year’s results for every care home surveyed are displayed on the Your Care Rating
