Care Home Celebrates New Year with Outdoor Barbeque for Staff and Residents
The staff members got out the barbeque and didn’t let the weather get in the way of enjoying the new year
A Buckinghamshire based care home celebrated the arrival of 2022 with an outdoor barbeque.
The staff members at MHA Hillside in Aylesbury rallied around and decided to do something to welcome the New Year and didn’t let the winter weather put them off a barbeque.
MHA Hillside is a 68 bed home which provides nursing care for older people, those with a physical disability and younger people with a long term medical condition.
Other staff members who were not on shift joined in and brought with them some of their culture’s traditional food for people to share.
Residents wrapped up warmly in blankets and made their way outside to enjoy a beautiful feast.
Grainne Wokes, home manager said: “It is definitely a unique idea, but one that was enjoyed by both staff and residents.
“The cold weather did not put anyone off, and we made sure our residents were wrapped up and didn’t stay outside for too long.
“Staff members who were not on shift also turned up, and brought in some of their traditional food and it was an amazing atmosphere.
“I can definitely see this becoming a regular occurrence, and it shows that barbeques are not just for when the weather is warm.
“It was a great way to welcome in the New Year and I am very proud of how the staff and residents took to the idea.”
