Care Home Brings Community Together for ‘Cuppa Joy Friday’ in Support of World Alzheimer’s Day

HC-One’s Sedgley Court Care Home in Dudley, West Midlands, was delighted to welcome residents, families, and members of the local community to its special ‘Cuppa Joy Friday’ event, held on Friday 19th September in support of World Alzheimer’s Day.

Guests were invited to ‘Wear Purple’ to raise awareness and show support for those living with dementia, while enjoying tea, cake, and conversation in the welcoming surroundings of Sedgley Court – a home providing 24-hour residential and residential dementia care, proudly rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

In the run-up to the event, the home was transformed with purple-themed decorations, crafts, and artwork created by residents and colleagues. Residents and their loved ones contributed handmade purple bows to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, alongside special “Hope” badges. Team member Chloe Moore, Senior Carer, also led crochet sessions, teaching residents and colleagues how to create knitted bows to be donated and sold in support of the cause.

The celebrations extended beyond the event itself, with residents enjoying purple nail painting and themed activities throughout the week. Families were also given resources designed to empower them with knowledge and confidence around dementia support, in keeping with September’s theme of empowerment.

Although Cuppa Joy Friday took place on the 19th, the home continued to mark World Alzheimer’s Day on 21st September with further purple-themed crafts, activities, and family celebrations to highlight the ‘Go Purple’ theme.
