Buckinghamshire Care Home Beats £2,500 Fundraising Target to Support Dementia Research

Signature at Farnham Common, a local care home providing residential, nursing, and dementia care, has surpassed its fundraising target for dementia research charity BRACE, raising an impressive £3,023 through a series of community-led events.

The care home originally set out to raise £2,500 as part of care provider Signature Senior Lifestyle’s group-wide commitment to support BRACE, a charity which funds pioneering research into dementia diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.

Together, Signature Senior Lifestyle’s ten homes aimed to collectively raise £25,000 to help fund a Dementia Research Nurse at the Bristol Brain Centre; a vital role supporting ongoing studies into the condition.

With almost one million people in the UK living with dementia, research into early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment has never been more vital. BRACE, which has been funding pioneering dementia research for over 30 years, supports projects across leading institutions in England and Wales.

Over the past year, Signature at Farnham Common’s residents, team members, and the local community have come together to host a range of creative and heart-warming events in support of the cause.

Among the standout highlights was the Snooker Challenge, which saw residents, families, and members of the local community competing in friendly matches, all while raising funds for dementia research.

This was followed by the Concert for a Cause, a lively afternoon of music that brought together residents, relatives, and local performers for an uplifting day of entertainment and generosity.

Another popular event was the Pimm’s & Prosecco Afternoon Tea, which combined live music and homemade treats with fundraising raffles and games.

Wendy Healy, Client Liaison Manager at Signature at Farnham Common, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have beaten our fundraising target for BRACE. This cause means so much to our residents, families, and team members, and it’s been heartening to see everyone come together to support dementia research in such creative and joyful ways. Each of these events was filled with laughter, love, and purpose, and that’s exactly what makes our community so special!”

The home also celebrated the inspiring efforts of team member Noreen, who hand-knitted and sold dozens of miniature “BRACE Bears” to support the campaign. The bears proved such a hit that families and fellow colleagues began placing orders of their own, helping to boost the total even further.

Donations from the Burnham Beeches Rotary Club, along with contributions from residents’ families and friends, added to the total, helping the home reach and exceed its target ahead of schedule.

Ana Araujo, General Manager at Signature at Farnham Common, added: “Raising over £3,000 for BRACE is a remarkable achievement, and we couldn’t have done it without the enthusiasm and generosity of everyone involved. I’m so proud of our residents and team for their commitment to making a difference for people living with dementia.”
