Borough Care Marks Dignity Action Day

Borough Care, the largest not-for-profit provider of care for older people in Stockport, recently marked Dignity Action Day. Dignity Action Day is an annual opportunity for health and social care workers, along with members of the public, to uphold people’s rights to dignity and provide a memorable day for people who use care services.

Borough Care used Dignity Action Day to acknowledge the dignified care it provides for residents in the company’s eleven homes, along with the ways staff make lives better for residents and their families. As part of the day, Borough Care residents had afternoon digni-tea, enjoyed singing and dancing and Dined with Dignity. Giving residents a choice of well-balanced, nutritious meals is a key part of the care Borough Care provides.

To mark Dignity Action Day a special Dine with Dignity menu was created, with the help of residents. Residents were asked about the food they liked and which dishes brought back happy memories. Residents tucked into egg mayonnaise or tomato soup, followed by fish in cheese sauce or faggots in onion gravy. For dessert there was a choice of jam sponge and custard or fruit trifle.

Led by the National Dignity Council, Dignity Action Day aims to ensure people who use care services are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives. It is a day for care providers to recognise what they have accomplished in delivering dignified care and a chance for care staff to celebrate with the people at the centre of their care.
