Bon Voyage: Parisian Dream Brought To Life For Centenarian
Minchenden Lodge has made a heartfelt dream come true for one of its oldest residents, Marie, by organising a special French-themed soiree.
Marie, a lifelong Francophile who lived in France as a newlywed at 19, has always longed to revisit Paris, but health issues have prevented her from making the journey. Determined to fulfil her wish, the dedicated staff at Minchenden, went above and beyond to create an unforgettable evening, transporting Marie to the city of romance.
The dining room was transformed into a Parisian wonderland, adorned with iconic decorations and bathed in the sounds of French music. The menu featured classic French fare, prepared in collaboration with the chef, to evoke memories of Marie’s beloved France.
Care home manager; Rahima Mulindwa said:
“The moment she entered the room her joy was palpable – her face lit up with a radiant smile. She joyfully immersed herself in the experience”.
Marie, who has been a resident at Minchenden Care Home since 2020, shared stories of her time in France, reminiscing about managing a restaurant there with her husband. Despite returning to London and continuing their culinary journey, Marie never forgot her cherished days en France.
The event was a resounding success, leaving Marie profoundly grateful. “This evening has brought back so many wonderful memories,” she said. The staff’s efforts to create this special moment have left a lasting impact, highlighting the care home’s commitment to enriching the lives of its residents. Rahima said, “I left work that day, knowing that I had made a positive impact on her life and such moments make my job worthwhile”.
