Blackpool Home Continues To Cater To Residents Occupational Needs With 50’s Style Kitchen

The residents spent time getting used to the new kitchen with themed items from the 50’s
A Blackpool home has added a 50’s themed kitchen to its impressive repertoire of areas at the home to exercise the occupational needs of residents.

MHA Pennystone Court opened its 1950s themed kitchen last week and to mark the occasion a special afternoon tea event was arranged with Deputy Mayor John Boughton as well as singer, songwriter and author Anne Nolan, from the Nolan sisters in attendance.

The visitors alongside residents and staff enjoyed the afternoon tea, which went down a treat with everyone.

The project took around six months from planning to completion, with home manager Lisa Robins carefully selecting items like a pulley, branded tins from that era and the flooring.

MHA Pennystone Court provides dementia and residential care for 36 residents.

Speaking after the opening Lisa said: “ Adhering to the occupational needs of our residents and the continuous improvement on this is something I am always keen to improve here at MHA Pennystone Court.

““We have set up a nostalgic shop, an IT tech room, a wellbeing room, a sensory room, converted a caravan into a hub for residents and their loved ones, a nail hair salon and a family dining room.

“The rooms/ spaces give our residents a sense of fulfillment and in regards to the kitchen they can reminisce and rewind the clock back to when they were younger and would have spent time in the kitchens like this in there and their loved ones homes.

“One of the main contributors towards the kitchen project was the funding we raised following the snorkelling with sharks event members of the team here did.

“We managed to raise over £1400 from that fundraiser, which shows the amazing support our community have shown us and

“In total we have raised over £24,000 for the spaces, which is a fantastic effort.

“Anne Nolan gave a heartwarming speech in which she mentioned how lovely our home was and how she wished her mum could have lived in MHA Pennystone Court which was very powerful and her words are something we will cherish.

“Our residents loved seeing her and were very keen to hear her sing.

“She was overwhelmed with the standard of our home and that was a very proud moment for me as home manager.”
