On 8th February 2017, Smith & Henderson announced the winners of the inaugural Best Employers in Care Awards. These awards are presented to the nation’s top care employers, based on feedback from thousands of carers.

Care workers were asked to complete a confidential survey about what it is like to work at their organisation, with questions covering leadership, training, communication, client focus and whether they would recommend their company as a great place to work.

Currently, there are four categories in the Best Employers in Care Awards; Best Large Employer Award, Best Mid-Size Employer Award, Best Local (Independent) Employer Award and the Best Local (Franchise) Employer Award.

A list of award recipients can be found here:

2017 Best Large Employer Award

The Best Large Employer Award is given to a care organisation that employs more than 1,000 carers. Home Instead Senior Care was announced as the winner of the 2017 Best Large Employer Award.
Martin Jones, Managing Director of Home Instead Senior Care, said: “We are honoured that our brand has received two inaugural Best Employers in Care awards from Smith & Henderson.

As a national homecare provider specialising in elder care, we are the proud employer of 8,500 CAREGivers across the UK. They are the backbone of what we do, delivering 5 million hours of quality care and companionship a year. At Home Instead Senior Care we have created long-term careers in care, jobs which represent meaningful not menial roles, with visits that last a minimum of one hour.

We are actively recruiting CAREGivers in 2017 and have 5,000 roles available for people who are looking to do something that makes a real difference to people’s lives.”

2017 Best Mid-Size Employer Award

The Best Mid-Size Employer Award is given to a care organisation that employs between 200-999 carers. Right at Home was announced as the winner of the 2017 Best Mid-Size Employer Award.

Managing Director at Right at Home, Ken Deary said; “Winning the Best Employer in Care Awards is an honour and vitally important to us.  It is particularly meaningful because the winners are decided not from the subjective opinion of judges, but from hard evidence given by our most important people, our CareGivers, via an independent and anonymous survey.”

2017 Best Local (Independent) Employer Award

The Best Local (Independent) Employer Award is given to an independent care organisation that employs between 25-199 carers. Bridgewater Home Care was announced as the winner of the 2017 Best Local (Independent) Employer.

2017 Best Local (Franchise) Employer Award

The Best Local (Franchise) Employer Award is given to a franchise care organisation that employs between 25-199 carers. Home Instead Senior Care Basingstoke was announced as the winner of the 2017 Best Local (Franchise) Employer.

Steven Frost, CEO of Smith & Henderson, the awards organisers said, “The winners of these inaugural awards should be commended because they are based on feedback from their care workers and thousands of others. The care sector too often receives negative publicity – in contrast these winners have established strong cultures whereby carers have the right support and training; are well led and have a strong commitment to delivering excellent client service.”
