Around The World Breakfast Celebrations!

Around the World Breakfast CelebrationsA Skelmersdale Care Home is celebrating the most important meal of the day as part of Breakfast Week 2015, offering people who live at the home the chance to sample breakfast very differently this week.

Stocks Hall Care Home has supported the week long National Campaign which runs from January 25th – 31st.   The ‘Shake Up Your Wake Up’ initiative champions the importance of breakfast and takes place every January.  Apart from providing us with energy, breakfast foods are good sources of important nutrients such as calcium, iron and B vitamins as well as protein and fibre.  The body needs these essential nutrients and research shows that if these are missed at breakfast, they are less likely to be compensated for later in the day.

Breakfast provides the body and brain with fuel after an overnight fast – that’s where its name originates, breaking the fast!  Without breakfast you are effectively running on empty, like trying to start the car with no petrol! A nutritious diet is essential for elderly health and with one in four people skipping breakfast, Stocks Hall wanted to help raise awareness of how important breakfast is in your diet.

A team of their Activities staff thought it would be great idea to sample Breakfasts from ‘Around the World’.  Monday took you to France, Tuesday USA, Wednesday Denmark, Thursday Switzerland and Friday finished in Holland.   The dining area was decorated and themed in the daily Country location, with menus provided in both the English and native language.  A sample menu from Friday’s culminating country ‘Holland’ served up ‘vers vruchtensap’ (fresh fruit juice), ‘koffie of thee’ (coffee or tea), ‘selectie van kazen’ (selection of cheeses), ‘selectie vleeswaren’ (selection of cold meats), ‘selectie van brood’ (selection of breads).

Emma Hyatt, Activities Coordinator said “It has been a varied week filled with fun and exciting breakfast options celebrating breakfast styles from around the world.  It has given us a great opportunity to discuss the health benefits of breakfast and how breakfast impacts on health and well being.”

During the week Stocks Hall Care Group have helped to raise awareness of the campaign via it’s social channels, showcasing the delicious breakfasts on offer.

Emma said “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it can also be the most exciting. It has been lovely to see how much everyone has enjoyed this opportunity to come together as a family and even try something new.  Le Français Jour was the clear favourite amongst people who live at the home.  Mettre sur les Croissants!”
