Animal Olympics: Residents Go Wild For Zoo Lab At Cambridge Care Home

With the Olympics just around the corner, residents at Waterbeach Lodge Care Home in Cambridge enjoyed an Olympic themed, Zoo Lab session with some exotic animals. Pet therapy, which is known to be hugely beneficial to the residents’ mental health, has become a much-loved regular on the activities calendar.

Chris, the knowledgeable animal handler from the Zoo Lab team, introduces the residents to different animals ranging from a golden corn snake to a black scorpion as well as a tree frog, giant centipede, and even a gecko named honey.

Chris takes the animals around the room giving each resident the opportunity to touch and hold them and answer any questions that come up. Activities Manager, Charlene Howell, said: “It is great to have such an unusual activity at the Waterbeach Lodge, it really is amazing how open and willing the residents are to new experiences. We looked at animals their features, how they move and discussed which Olympic event we would enter them into. Zoo lab is a really enjoyable and therapeutic experience for the Residents”.
