Amazon’s Alexa A Hit With Peterlee Care Home Residents

A DIGITAL assistant took top prize at a Peterlee care home quiz after elderly residents put the device to the test.

The residents at Bannatyne Lodge Care Home fired questions at Amazon’s Alexa Dot and were amazed to get detailed answers back.

They quizzed the device on the subject of famous women and their inventions – following the recent International Women’s Day.

Resident Beatrice Clyde said: “That’s a very surprising thing. What will they think of next.”

After the quiz, the residents were treated to a hot drink and freshly baked cupcakes, part of the Sit Down for a Cuppa event with friends and family.

Lynn Chapman, home manager at Bannatyne Lodge Care Home, on Manor Way, said: “We believe it’s important for our residents to learn about new technology and what is happening in the world around them – not be shut off from it.

“Every time we introduce something new, they are always keen to get their hands on it, see what it can do and what they can learn from it.

“The Alexa Dot was a good opportunity to introduce an intuitive bit of technology that all the residents can easily get to grips with – as it’s as easy as asking a question.

“It was a big hit at our quiz and I’m sure they will continue to make good use of the device as they were very interested in seeing what else it could do.”
