Age UK Welcomes Celebrity Dev Griffin On Board
Age UK is pleased to announce that BBC Radio 1 Host and Strictly Come Dancing contestant, Dev Griffin, has come on board to support the Charity as an ambassador.
Dev has joined Age UK to help the Charity continue its crucial work to be there for older people when they have nowhere else to turn. During the past year, he has been working closely with Age UK both locally and nationally to create a special podcast series, which will be available later this year.
The series will give a unique insight into the lives of older people, featuring interviews with members of Age UK East London’s Geezers and Bow Belles and Age UK Oldham’s LGBT Out and About group. Topics discussed in the intimate podcasts include wisdom and happiness, relationships and sexuality, mental health, loss and childhood.
Age UK ambassador, Dev, said: “I am honoured to be an Age UK ambassador. Over the last year I have spent some time with some amazing people who all have such incredible and different stories about love, friendship and life.
“This series is based around conversations I wish I had with my own grandparents who passed away before I could fully appreciate the knowledge and wisdom they acquired over their long and fascinating lives. I hope that these conversations bring older and younger generations closer together and promote similar discussions amongst all ages.”
Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director at Age UK, said “We’re so thrilled to welcome Dev to Age UK, and know that his support will be invaluable.
“We truly appreciate Dev’s commitment to getting to know older people, understanding their lives and struggles, and also getting to know Age UK at the same time.
“We look forward to continuing to work with Dev and are excited as he champions our cause and encourages his audience to perhaps see older people differently.”
Last year the Charity found that 2.65 million older people in the UK feel they have no one to turn to for help and support[1]. Age UK exists to help older people when they need it the most. The Charity provides essential services nationally and locally for older people, as well as their family, friends and carers, including the free Age UK Advice Line – a confidential phone service open 365 days a year – and support from local Age UKs across the country. The Geezers, Bow Belles and LGBT groups are just a few of the many services offered to older people. The Age UK network provides information, advice, practical services and campaigns on the issues that matter to people in later life.
Dev’s Podcast series, in collaboration with Age UK will be announced later this year. To find out more about Age UK and its national and local services visit: www.ageuk.org.uk or for advice or information on money, care or health, call: 0800 169 6565.
